I am Emily Apel, 23 years old, and I have been competing in canoe slalom since I was 11 years old. Through my

father, who is now my coach, and my sister, I got into paddling.

When I started, I was still very shy and introverted. Through

sports and my passion for the water, I gradually became more outgoing.

That is why canoe slalom has shaped me not only as an athlete, but also as a person.

I love the connection to nature and the combination of discipline and

passion in our sport. I am grateful for the journey I have been able to take so far

and I am excited for what is still to come!

My goals are clear – the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028 and/or Brisbane

2032. I work towards these goals and invest a lot of time and passion into my training. However,

the most important thing is always to have fun – I try to keep that as my

main focus and not lose it along the way.

Outside of paddling, I enjoy playing basketball, reading, and drawing from

time to time. I am also studying design alongside my athletic career in order to build

a second career path and sometimes clear my mind. But most of all, I love being near the water,

whether at the beach, by a lake, or at the whitewater course.

Mina Blume

Mina is pursuing her path, having grown up in Braunschweig with the Oker River right behind her home. She is now a student at the sports boarding school in Halle an der Saale. With very clear goals in mind, she is pursuing her career as a slalom canoeist. She trains with determination and confidence to achieve them. When Mina is not on the water, she enjoys playing handball, road cycling, or bouldering. We are excited for the coming years with Mina — feel free to follow her journey.

My love for canoeing: in slalom, searching for the perfect line with the water; in cross, competing against each other with courage, tactics, and fairness.
